Clonalis House is a county house with an illustrious history.
The house was designed in 1878 by well-known Victorian architect
Pepys Cochrell. This house replaced an earlier house that dated
back to around 1750. The house combines both characteristics
of Queen Anne and Italianate architecture, and rooms are airy
and bright. Bedrooms all face southwest and have large windows
with views of the surrounding estate. Rooms are appointed with
period decor which enhances the historic nature of the house.
Guest lounge available in the old library which features an
open fire and period furniture. Guests are welcome to explore
the house, which includes seeing the Family's Coronation Stone
and Carolan's Harp, the latter dating back to the 17th century
and once owned by Ireland's "blind harper," Turlough
O'Carolan.
A stay here would be an exceptional addition to anyone's itinerary.
With so few rooms guests will enjoy a high level of personal
attention that will enable them to relax and absorb the specialness
of the house. Evening meals are offered and served in the old
dining room which is traditionally set. Feel like a lord or
lady of the manor here!
