Ballyhannon Castle, also known as Castlefergus, is a tower
keep built around 1490AD by Hugh MacNamara. Many years of history
surround this castle, but it eventually fell into disrepair.
It was purchased in 1970 by an American couple who restored
the castle for habitation, retaining most of the original architecture,
including deep windows, arrow loops and fireplaces. This castle
has five floors with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, all on
various floors. Every room has been decorated to exemplary standard
to enhance the medieval atmosphere of the castle. While there
is a very strong medieval influence running throughout, the
castle is full of modern amenities, including central heating,
running water and glass in the windows! The kitchen is full
service and includes a microwave, washer/dryer, dishwasher and
all electric appliances. The castle includes TV, stereo, internet
access and phone. The castle is rented by the week and catering
is available by arrangement.
Step back in time and be the lord and/or lady of the keep while
in Ireland.
