Smithstown Castle, aka Ballynagowan Castle, is on the edge
of the historic village of Kilfenora in the heart of County
Clare and on the edge of the Burren. This is a fine example
of a 15th century tower castle. There is a long history here,
and the castle was lived in until the mid-19th century. Today,
the castle has been fully restored. Ever effort was made to
retain original features, including spiral staircases and fire
places, while catering to modern needs, such as central and
under-floor heating, running water and original fireplaces.
The kitchen is fully fitted with modern electric appliances
and extras, including microwave, washer/dryer and dishwasher.
The castle includes three bedrooms, one bathroom and two shower
rooms. All rooms are thoughtfully decorated with period-style
furnishings. TV in all bedrooms, stereo in the Great Hall. The
castle sits on nearly five acres of private grounds which allows
for quiet walks. Overlooks the River Deelagh. Countryside views
from all windows. Private on-site parking.
You'll feel like a king or queen sitting fireside.
