Carrigeen Castle dates back to penal days of the 16th century
when the castle was used as the local prison for the town of
Cahir. There were sections for both men and women. The guard
house is also attached and serves as the main entrance. Today
the house has been beautifully restored and is filled with antiques
and family memorabilia. Views from the rooms are outstanding
as the location of the castle is on a cliff overlooking the
town of Cahir. As a listed building and part of the Heritage
Trail, a visit to the B&B will prove most memorable.
Original architectural characteristics include the spiral stairs,
arched hallways and stone floors. Rooms are comfortably decorated.
To retain the original aesthetic, not all rooms are en suite.
Private off-street parking, and town is just a few minutes walk.
The castle overlooks the Galtee Mountains to the southwest and
Cahir Castle and town from the northeast. The castle has been
in the Butler family since 1919.
