Killaghy Castle began its life in 1206AD when St. Aulyus built
the first stone keep. The original tower has four floors that
are all connected by a series of spiral stairways. A second
building was added to the rear of the castle in the 16th century,
and two others were added by 1800, which included altering the
original keep to include large windows for light. Today the
castle has been completely modernized and decorated with antiques,
while still retaining much of its historical architecture and
atmosphere. Three of the bedrooms are en-suite, all offering
the same level of services. All rooms have views of the historic
walled gardens or other views of the estate, of which there
are 240 acres of private farmland and nature walks. The estate
also includes two tennis courts. There is a guest lounge and
games room available, and all meals are served, with advance
notice in the dining room.
Killaghy Castle has been a family home, B&B and self-catered
accommodation. Today the castle offers weekend Well-being breaks
and workshops helping people deal with a variety of needs, including
dealing with stress, anxiety and depression. Also dealing with
grief, long-term illness and addiction.
The castle is also available to rent on a self-catering basis.
