OVERVIEW
Lismacue House is a luxurious Georgian country house dating
back to the early 17th century and has seen mass refurbishment
in recent years. Guests can enjoy high ceilings with intricate
and unusual pendant crown plasterwork, broad stair cases and
stained pine floors, which are original to the house. Differing
architectural styles can be seen between the newer Georgian
house and the original 16th century dwelling. All rooms are
en-suite, large and well-appointed and include all of the modern
amenities one comes to expect in a period residence. Guests
can enjoy the library and drawing room with spectacular marble
fireplace and over mantel mirror. Most furnishings are original
to the house, which has remained in the same family's hands
for 300 years.
The approach drive to the house is through one of Europe's
most impressive lime tree avenues, which was planted by Hugh
Baker in 1760, ancestor of the Nicholson's. The house sits on
200 acres of private woodland, which the Ara River runs through.
Breathtaking views of the Galtee Mountains can be seen from
most rooms and on clear days there is a wonderful view of the
Rock of Cashel miles away. Meals are taken in the original dining
room. The owner is a Cordon Bleu chef and offers guests luncheons
and evening meals upon request.
The house is available on a B&B basis, and also available
on a weekly basis as a semi-selfcatered accommodation.
GUEST COMMENTS
Having had the privilege to stay at Lismacue House several
times a year since 2001, I heartily recommend it as a base from
which to explore the southeast of Ireland, knowing that at the
end of a long day, you will be coming home to a gracious manor
house in glorious surroundings with a roaring fire and nibbly
bits and a glass or two of libation of choice, all while awaiting
a superb dinner prepared by the owner/cordon blue chef. There
are horses frolicking in the paddocks, acres of starry skies
and the views are breathtaking. The Nicholsons are affable hosts
who succeed marvelously in making guests feel that they are
in their home from home. Lovely Irish breakfasts in the breakfast
room, divine dinners, should you choose not to sample the local
restaurants' wonderful fare, in the magnificent dining room,
and stimulating conversation in the drawing room with welcoming
fire all contribute to making one feel that he or she is visiting
friends - a delight every time.
