The Island dates back to the 11th century when the island was
home to the FitzGerald family. Waterford Castle dates back to
the 16th century. Access onto the island today is by car ferry
across Kings Channel and operated 24-hours a day. All rooms
in the castle are en-suite and decorated in Jacobean style antiques
and intricate original tapestries. Open fires have remained
a central feature in each room. While each room gives a sense
of timelessness and luxury, all modern day amenities can also
be enjoyed in the rooms. Stunning views from every room. There
is an award winning restaurant in the castle offering tasty
gourmet cuisine. The country club has a clubhouse for casual
meals. An 18-hole golf course surrounds the castle and 310 acres
of parkland are available for a casual stroll. Guest activities
include golf, clay target shooting, lawn boules, tennis, walking
and cycling.
