INCH STRAND
Trá Inse
Inch, County Kerry

Inch Strand is along the south coast of the Dingle Peninsula at the foot of Cummeen Mountain, which is part of the Stradbally Mountain range. This golden strand stretches over three miles and if not for a narrow channel, the strand would connect with Rossbeigh Strand on the other side of Dingle Bay on the Ring of Kerry to create the longest strand in Ireland. Both strands can be seen from the vantage point above Inch Strand along Red Cliffs Drive/R561.

In the Summer months, visitors flock to this strand to enjoy any number of interests, from swimming in the sea, to fishing, sandcastle building and volleyball, parasailing, kayaking and boating, land yachting, and more.

And for the adventurous, driving onto the strand offers a memorable experience. Just take caution the closer you get to the end of the strand, as the sand gets very soft and it's not uncommon for cars to get stuck. It's hours until a tow truck

can make it out, meaning the car can be flooded when the tide come back in!

One of the popular adventures at Inch Strand is exploring the dunes. The dunes are home to many species of grasses and supports many types of sea life The sea here is tidal, ebbing and flowing quite fast. It's common to find a rim of shells at the foot of the dunes after a high tide, as well as a few creatures who got left behind when the tide recedes.

Inch Strand was also a filming location for such classic films as "Ryan's Daughter", "Playboy of the Western world," "The Islandman/Eileen Aroon" and opening scenes for "Far and Away."
